Desert Shellhole

Oranjemund

Currently Dormant

A proud part of the history of M.O.T.H. Namibia, preserved in remembrance while we look toward the future and the eventual reopening of Desert Shellhole.

Shellhole Status

Desert Shellhole is Currently Dormant

Desert Shellhole in Oranjemund is currently dormant and is not operating as an active Shellhole at this time.

This does not mean that its history, memories or place within M.O.T.H. Namibia are forgotten. This page exists to preserve the story of Desert Shellhole and the comrades who formed part of it.

Our hope and intention is that Desert Shellhole will one day be reopened and once again become an active home for M.O.T.H. comrades in Oranjemund.

The History of Desert Shellhole

A Shellhole may become dormant, but its history remains part of the story of the Order.

Preserving the Desert Story

Desert Shellhole forms part of the history of M.O.T.H. in Namibia and of the comradeship established in Oranjemund.

Over the years, Shellholes have provided comrades with places where friendships could be maintained, memories could be shared and those who served could be remembered.

The history of Desert should therefore not disappear simply because the Shellhole is currently dormant.

This page is intended to become a permanent digital record of Desert Shellhole — its people, its photographs, its stories, its commemorations and its contribution to the M.O.T.H. family.

Remembering the Comrades of Desert

The most important part of a Shellhole is the people who gave it life.

The Comrades

The men and women who belonged to Desert Shellhole remain an important part of its story and of M.O.T.H. Namibia.

The Memories

Meetings, gatherings, friendships, commemorations and shared experiences are the memories that give a Shellhole its character.

The Legacy

Preserving these memories allows future generations of comrades to understand where Desert came from and why it matters.

A Shellhole May Rest — Comradeship Remains

Being dormant does not erase the bonds created by a Shellhole.

The friendships formed through M.O.T.H., the memories shared by comrades and the respect shown to those who have gone before remain part of the Order’s living tradition.

Desert Shellhole therefore remains part of M.O.T.H. Namibia — even while it waits for the opportunity to become active again.

The M.O.T.H. Charge

The principles that give meaning to every Shellhole remain unchanged.

True Comradeship

Maintaining the friendships and bonds between comrades.

Mutual Help

Supporting comrades and remembering that no comrade should stand alone.

Sound Memory

Preserving the names, stories and sacrifices of those who came before us.

A Chapter Waiting to Be Reopened

Desert Shellhole is dormant today, but we believe its story is not finished.

The intention is to preserve the Shellhole’s history and memories while looking toward the day when circumstances allow comrades to gather again under the Desert Shellhole banner.

The story of Desert Shellhole is not finished. We are preserving its past while preparing for its future.
